CIF-SS Playoff Division Projections

October 21, Week 9

Busy week of broadcasts, so not much of a preamble. Field starting to take shape, as four-team pods have begun their league schedules.

EDITOR’S NOTE: In initial projection, La Serna (Del Rio) was incorrectly placed in Division 13. That has how been adjusted.

In a strange quirk, for whatever reason, Division 11 ended up being all Automatic Qualifiers (AQs) like Divisions 13 and 14. This happened because none of the At-Large teams were close enough to the rating range of that division, to where it wouldn’t affect the rest of the field.

Week 9 action should help refine the field even more. Again, if you’re new to this, projections aren’t “predictions” per se. We’re just using the Cal Preps rankings to see how the playoff divisions may fall. We’re also only projecting at-large teams with .500 records or better. I’ve included a list of teams whose ratings would include them in the projection, but are not currently over .500. In the end, the committee generally does end up selecting some sub-.500 teams for At-Large berths.

In case you’re wondering, last year, we matched 95% of teams in the field, and 91% in terms of divisions.
