Based on the missive, issued in the CIF Playoff Bulletin, teams that aren’t automatic qualifiers, and have records under .500 will not be awarded at-large bids into this year’s field. In discussing that issue with coaches and media members, it’s often met with a lot of skepticism. The idea that a team with a qualifying power ranking from one of the top leagues would be given a bid is hard for some people to wrap their head around. I even talked with a coach on the playoff committee this week, who felt it might come down to how the divisions broke out.
For our purposes, I’ve followed, what I’ve read in the bulletin.
But, just in case, here is a list of teams that could still make the field, if they the committee is benevolent, or if they manage to pull their final record over .500. These are teams on “the bubble.”
These are teams that are not automatic qualifiers, and have records under .500. However, if you go by their Cal Preps rating, they should be in the field.
