CIF-SS Playoff Projections
October 13, Week 8
First Projection for 2024. 180 Automatic Qualifiers (AQ) and 36 At-Large Bids, over fourteen (14) divisions. Divisions 13 and 14 are entirely filled with AQs. Some of the four-team pods have not started league play, so projected those based on overall ranking and (when applicable) competitive history.
With the re-alignment of Orange County, we said goodbye to some history, with the Sunset, South Coast and Sea View, among others, but the gerrymandering gives rise to some new rivalries as well. There was also some league movement in Los Angeles and in the IE as well.
In this first projection, went with an eight-team bracket for Division 1, and didn’t project any At-Large bids for teams under .500. A list of the teams that could fall into our projection, but are currently under .500 is also listed below.
I did this fairly quickly, based on the Cal Preps rankings from Friday, but noticed they’d already changed by Saturday, due to some late reported scores and a couple of Saturday games. If there’s anything glaring that jumps out, or any teams that may have been left out, feel free to bring to my attention.
The next couple of weeks will be very interesting.
