Did my best to finish these as soon as possible, ahead of Sunday’s release. Hoping I have all the coin flips right, and have left Colony out, due to the forfeit issues. Seem to recall the same thing happening to a couple of other teams in the past, where they were allowed to compete. Had to jump on a plane to fly to the East Coast, and wouldn’t you know it? Notable among teams left our were Santa Margarita with only one league win in the Trinity. I’d originally been told D1 could be a ten-team bracket, but when some news broke, chatter was they were back to eight teams.
I honestly don’t know much about the Colony forfeit situation, so they could still be in, but they were 0-10 in most recent CalPreps iteration, so just went with that.
Also left Notre Dame-SO out, despite them being at .500 in the Mission, which is obviously a good league. My rationale was, with where their rating broke, Loyola and Mira Costa were in similar range, effectively, one of those teams took Notre Dame’s spot. They could very well be in, which could affect either Pacifica or Vista Murrieta in D3, at At-Large teams.
The other teams I wasn’t sure about were Alemany, who I left out, due to 0 league wins. My informal “poll” among HS Football “insiders” was split on them, as we went into Week 10. The other team I looked hard at was Bishop Diego, out of the Marmonte, who ended up under .500 at 4-5-1, due to their tie against Etiwanda in non-league play. They actually were in my original projection, in D5, but my feeling was if I left Notre Dame-SO on the cutting room floor, it’d be hard to justify including them.
